Thing #21

I made a podcast using Photostory. The new microphone equipment kept getting hung up at the last moment and Photostory rejected it. So I tried downloading music from music downloads website--and somehow kept choosing music that couldn't be downloaded. So I found music and created the video, and saved it to my computer. Then I tried to upload it to my Blog, but it wouldn't accept it.

I'm not going to register for any more sites like Switchpod because since taking this class my home computer is opening files SLoOoOwly.

However, I like the video I made and plan to share it with the class during 1st 9 weeks Social Studies.

Thing #19 2.0

What is special about the tool?
Writeboard: collaborate on documents...I can think of our team adding and changing our roadmapping using the writeboard. The beauty of it is it isn't stuck on one computer or memory stick...but is accessible through internet from anywhere.

My Heritage: I couldn't find my ancestors, but if I entered more, I'm sure they'd offer something.

I browsed through Yourminis for widgets...and now know what widgets are. I think they would amuse 2nd graders immensely.

Visual arts: Swivel provided many ways to graph information. We study graphs all year in 2nd grade.

I like SEOmoz's Web 2.0 for locating all these links in one spot.

Thing #18 OpenOffice

Wow--it can read files "which the original software package had said were corrupted and unusable." That is very useful to know!

I swap files all the time and sometimes cannot open them--now I know where to come for help. At school, I may have 3 different versions of software in the same room. It is very frustrating to move from computer to computer with student work, only to have it not function the next time a computer becomes available. I love also that it has an "open-source licence," so it will always remain free. Thank you to the folks all over who dreamed this up, and contributed to it's riches.

Google docs has wonderful resources as well. I loved the natural elements slide show template and the scrapbook templates! I've been tired of my computer's choices and this gives me a lift. They even had Avery labels, expense reports, a wedding planner, and grading sheets with graphics and rubrics! I found a student schedule document, budget sheet, even a simple lesson plan. Can you tell I had fun? Just found math quizzes and book reports.

Thing #17 Rollyo

I searched for Fix-it home repairs and great searches came up. I got lost in the electronic section. There was nothing about Mini-Rex rabbits or Aspergers or some others I tried. I am delighted that I can use Rollyo to store my most visited websites.

Thing #16 Wikis

I have used Wikipedia and never realized the Wiki part! Wikis are a wonderful way to communicate more effectively without cross purpose emails among group members.

I would like to use one in my classroom to publish and share student research projects and technological feats. It might help with storage issues.

Thing #15 Library 2.0

I loved the video! I can only imagine what I would be like today trying to stay focused in class, but having students all around me, including myself, looking online at other stuff.

These are highlights from my reading about Library 2.0, which I surmise is a way to make today's library relevent to a changed society:
*This makes the library transparent.
*This librarian creates and nurtures a living, breathing technology plan.
*Libraries are not just collections of documents and books, they are conversations, they are convocations of people, ideas, and artifacts in dynamic exchange. Libraries are not merely in communities, they are communities: they preserve and promote community memories; they provide mentors not only for the exploration of stored memory, but also for the creation of new artifacts of memory.
*Library 3D People will collect librarians rather than books—the ability not just to organise, but also to annotate and compare books and other information sources, from a variety of useful perspectives.
*Library 4.0 will add a new mode, knowledge spa: meditation, relaxation, immersion in a luxury of ideas and thought.
*Millenials have very little interest in the “traditional” library.

*I joined Classroom 2.0--will take time to explore benefits. Over 9,000 people are registered!
